SERC SCHOOL ON BIOPHOTONICS

Applications are invited from research scholars, post-doctoral fellows and young faculty with relevant research interests, for participation in this Department of Science and Technology sponsored SERC School. Although the School is primarily aimed at research scholars and postdoctoral fellows, final year students of M.Sc / M.Tech with interest in pursuing research in biophotonics may also apply. The topics to be covered in the School will include basics of tissue optics; optical imaging of weakly scattering objects with particular attention to current developments in optical microscopy like confocal, multiphoton, nonlinear and near-field optical microscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, etc; optical coherence tomography, diffuse optical tomography and other approaches for optical imaging through turbid medium; optical diagnosis using elastic scattering, fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy, optical manipulation of microscopic objects and its applications to biological research; nanobiophotonics etc. Apart from lectures by the experts in the field that includes members of the national organizing committee, the participants will also be encouraged to do hands-on experiments designed to facilitate understanding of the topics discussed during the School. The number of participants is restricted to about forty. All the selected participants will be provided to and fro train fare and local hospitality.
